Born on February 4, 1916. Dr. Velascos’s pioneering and promising works in various areas of plant physiology such as mineral nutrition, photopediorism, chemical weed control and plant growth in general, have provided the basis of some important crop production management practices as well as laid out researches directions. He is known for his research on Cadang-cadang disease of coconuts.
Among the Honors and awards received by Dr. Velasco for his scientific achievements include: Guggenheim Foundation fellowships (1963), UP Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus award (1971), Planters Products Achievement award for crop science teaching (1974) and PCCP Distinguished award in pest management (1974).
