Dr. JD Soriano is a Geneticist recognized for his studies on Plant Cytogenetics and Mutations Research most of which found publication in international journals such as the Scientific American. By using radiations and chemical mutagens, Dr. Soriano contributed much to the eludication of the Mutation Process.
He has been awarded numerous international research grants from UNESCO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 1970 thru 1990.
Among the honors and achievement awards received by Dr. Soriano are SEATO Research award, 1963; International Atomic Energy Agency Fellowship, 1962; Professorial Chair Botany at the University of the Philippines, 1974-76; Director, University of the Philippines Research and Development Council, 1977-1984; and UNESCO associations in Genetics such as the Genetics Society of America, American Genetics Association and the Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding.
Dr. Joventino D. Soriano was the founder of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), an elite scientific organization that has been mandated to recognize outstanding achievements in science and technology and to serve as an intellectual reservoir of highly competent scientific and technological specialists in the country.
